German Media Houses on Polish Press Market
Rydlová, Lucie ; Šafařík, Petr (advisor) ; Vykoukal, Jiří (referee)
Lucie Rydlová: German media houses on Polish press market Abstract This thesis examines the activity of the German media groups Axel Springer AG and Verlagsgruppe Passau on the Polish press market. These German publishers have taken advantage of the transformation and liberalization after 1990 and have massively invested in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. In Poland, dailies were published by both of the aforementioned groups. Axel Springer AG produces the tabloid daily Fakt and between 2006 and 2009 the group produced the semi-tabloid Dziennik. Verlagsgruppe Passau has owned a variety of regional dailies (now merged under one umbrella and published only a few times a week). With regard to the historical burden on the relationship between Poland and Germany, the position of a German publisher in the field of opinion-forming media is rather difficult. This thesis compares the operation of the two aforementioned publishers on the Polish press market, with the focus on how they entered the market and expanded their business, on the influence of the publisher on the editorial slant, on the controversies with the Anti-Monopoly Office, and on their attitude towards their competitors and the Polish political representation. Activities beyond publishing and standards imposed in the parent and subsidiary...

Mikešová, Klára ; Balaš, Vladimír (advisor) ; Šturma, Pavel (referee)
in English The purpose of this master's thesis is to introduce a reader into some legal aspects of foreign investment in Australia. And especially those which can be crucial for a foreign investor when contemplating about investing in Australia. The thesis is divided into 6 chapters. The first chapter introduces the topic of foreign investment and the thesis itself. The second chapter familiarizes with the key terms in international investment law, namely, investor (both a natural and legal person) and investment (in economic and legal sense). The third chapter describes the legal framework governing foreign investment in Australia. It provides an overview of domestic and also international legislation. The fourth chapter then deals with admission and establishment of investment in Australia. It covers how this issue is regulated in investment treaties and in domestic legislation, where the most important piece of legislation is Foreign Acquisitions and Takeovers Act. Further, this chapter describes the concept of foreign person and the national interest test. The concept of the national interest test is important as all foreign investments which are notifiable actions are assessed by the Treasurer against the national interest test, which, however, is not defined in legislation. The fifth chapter...
Foreign direct investment impact on selected macroeconomic indicators of the economy of the Czech Republic from 1993 to 2013
Švec, Petr ; Czesaný, Slavoj (advisor) ; Zamrazilová, Eva (referee)
Subject of this diploma thesis is to provide an overview of economic theories on why companies tend to invest at foreign markets directly and thus to determine the foreign direct investment (FDI) itself. Covered areas include a foreign direct investment typology, motivation to invest, localisation factors, attractiveness and measurement of a host country business environment. Various types of FDI, methodology and forms of FDI statistical coverage analysis is included in the thesis. Three frameworks influencing all the segments of the FDI are covered in depth. These include the foreign policy factors, domestic policy factors and a process of economic transformation in the Czech Republic. Corresponding analytics map a development between a FDI and selected macroeconomic indicators of the Czech Republic. The analysis shows that foreign investment has a certain influence over selected macroeconomic indicators, however it is not always possible to quantify it as well as to predict its trend. On the other side it is often difficult to prove an influence of macroeconomic development on intensity of the FDI inflow to the Czech Republic. Keywords: foreign investment, determinants of the foreign direct investment inflow, foreign direct investment macroeconomic indicators

Profitability Life Cycle of Foreign Direct Investment and its Application to the Czech Republic
Novotný, Filip
The main driver of economic growth in the Czech Republic has been foreign direct investment (FDI). The decisions of foreign direct investors are profit-seeking, so a deterioration in the income balance of the current account has been observed as a consequence. The profitability profile of FDI is estimated on a panel of countries and then applied to the Czech Republic. The FDI profitability life cycle has a non-linear time profile with a duration of between 15 and 16 years. Maximum profitability is reached in the 7th to 8th year after the initial investment. Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries have a higher return on capital compared to the overall sample of countries. Knowing the FDI profitability life cycle enables us to construct various scenarios for the evolution of total FDI earnings depending on the future FDI inflows (changing FDI stock) assumed.

Identification and Analysis of the Impacts of the Economic Crisis on Chosen Countries of Africa (Nigeria and Malawi) and Latin America (Brazil and Belize) between 2007-2014
Kašlík, Jan ; Jílek, Josef (advisor) ; Pekárek, Štěpán (referee)
This thesis studies the identification and analysis of the impact of the latest economic crisis of 2008 on selected countries of the world with the purpose of identifying the relevance of channels through which the financial and economic crisis has spread to these countries. The thesis focuses on two regions of the world: Africa and Latin America. In both of these regions two countries are chosen to be analyzed more closely. These are Nigeria and Malawi for Africa, Brazil for South America and Belize for Central America. The possible channels of transmission of the crisis were identified to be private capital flows, international trade and commodity prices, remittances and international aid. In the analysis of the chosen countries, it was identified that the most important channels were international trade, commodity prices and capital flows. On the other hand the least impactful channels were remittances and international aid. These were rather stable during the crisis and in the case of aid even played a countercyclical role.

This year’s first issue of Global Economic Outlook presents the regular monthly overview of recent and expected developments in selected territories, focusing on key economic variables: inflation, GDP growth, leading indicators, interest rates, exchange rates and commodity prices. In this issue, we also focus on the life cycle of foreign direct investment (FDI) on both the theoretical and empirical level. Our article presents an empirically derived general profile of the FDI profitability life cycle and then applies it to create scenarios for the probable future evolution of total FDI earnings on the example of the Czech Republic.
